Vocabulary List 4: Shapes- test for tomorrow!!!!



1. domed: a hemispherical place (often roof/ceiling)

2. spherical: an object that is perfectly round and circular

3. warped: when an object is twisted out of shape

4. arch: a curved structure, often on the upper edge of a door or window

5. bulbous: big and round or shaped like an onion

6. gnarled: twisted and full of knots (like an ancient tree)

7. sinuous: supple and graceful, full of curves or bends

8. crescent: less than half visible moon or an arc shape

9. concave: curved inward

10. convex: curved outward

11. dimpled: an indented surface area

12. radial: spreading out from the centre (relating to radius)
13. eclipse: referring to an astronomical eclipse or loss of light

14. lozenge: a diamond-shaped figure

15. spiral: something with a curving circular pattern

The runner

The runner was written by keith gray. And it start with a boy called jaon. Jason fed up with his parents' arguments, runs away on the Intercity train to Liverpool to stay with his brother. As he waits for the train to leave the station he is beset by worries that someone will find him and take him back. Then he meets Jam, "a runner", who lives on the train, dodging the conductor and living a life of total freedom where the only person you can trust is yourself. Jason is fascinated by Jam's way of life. After all, haven't his parents let him down by arguing all the time? His brother's let him down by moving all the way to Liverpool and he couldn't even tell his best friend Ben what he was going to do in case he told on him. Just as he starts to think that being a runner is the best option for himself, Jason discovers that Jam isn't quite as he appears. Perhaps things aren't as black and white as Jason first thought--maybe running away isn't the answer.

Charlotte's Web

In the startng of this book Fern's dad owns a farm and one of his pigs were given birth to pigglets and Mr.Arble discover one of then is a RUNT and decides to kill it. But when his eight-year old daughter begs him not to he gives it to her as a pet and names it Wilbur. Wilbur was getting to big so then was sold to Fern's uncle, Homer Zuckerman. But as Fern gets older and older her visits start to decrease. Wilbur gets lonelier day after. Wibur hears a voice that says that shes going to be his new friend. Charlotte was a gray spider and noe Wilbur's new friend. But soon Wilbur finds out that he is going to be killed and eaaten on Christmas day. Wilbur didn't know what to do so he turns to Charlotte for help. Charlotte comes up with an idea of writing on her web extolling Wilbur's excellents like ''Humble'' and ''Some pig'' so that Wilbur will get famous and if Wilbur is famous he won't be killed. Thanks to Charlotte's plan Wilbur is not only killedd but is entered in a country fair. But sadly Charlotte dies after giving birth. Wilbur repays Charlotte by bringing them back to Zuckerman's farm. Charlotte's eggs hatch in Zuckerman's farm some of them decide to leave and make homes for themself. But only three stayed to be Wilbur's new friend's.
