Vocabulary List 2: Tastes and Smells


1. aroma: a smell, often pleasant

2. greasy: thick with grease

3. succulent: juicy and pleasant to taste

4. aromatic: having a fragrant, pleasant smell

5. savoury: salty or spicy food (often contrasted with sweet)

6. astringent: sharp and acidic

7. insipid: flavourless and dull

8. palatable: tastes pleasant enough to be eaten or drunk

9. sour: a bitter or sharp taste

10. tang: a sharp, strong, distinctive taste

11. rancid: a strong, disagreeable taste (suggests disgust)

12. acrid: unpleasantly strong in taste or smell

13. fulsome: a rich, satisfying taste

14. putrid: decaying or disgusting smell

15. pungent: strong smelling or tasting
