A Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian

This book by Sherman Alexie is about this indian/native american boy named Arnold Spirit. To start the story, he explained that when he was just born, Arnold was born with excess of cerebral spinal fluid in his skull (described as: born with water in the brain). He is a cartoonist. It is written in first person, it is detailing Arnold's life on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Arnold has 42 teeth, he's skinny. He has really big hands, feet and head. He has poor eyesight, he has this thing called a stutter and a lisp. Most of his family is very poor, they can't afford as much. One day, Arnold's adopted dog, Oscar got sick. But since they are very poor they can't pay for it to be cured. So his dad forced him to kill Oscar with a rifle. Arnold only has 1 friend named Rowdy. Although Rowdy's dad abuses his wife and son...The next day, which is his first day in high school, when he was in school, his teacher Mr.P told his whole class to read this textbook. As he started reading, he realized that it had been used by his mother.Out of random, he threw the book and it accidently hit Mr.P, who decided to suspend Arnold. After a week passed, Arnold and his family went to meet Mr.P, where Arnold apologize. Afterwards, Mr.P and he had a talk, which made him realize what he did wrong.Mr.P wanted Arnold to leave the reservation and move to another school called "Reardan" in the countryside, Arnold accepted. When his friend, Rowdy heard about this, he was angry. As he joins the school, he made better friends. He also has this crush on this girl named Penelope. But other students treat him badly because he's the only Indian in the school.Towards the end of the story, it is a happy ending since he and Penelope develops their relationship, he makes it to the basketball team and him and Rowdy became friends again. Unfortunately, his sister dies because of a trailer fire and so does his grandmother which got run over by a car which belonged to a drunk driver.

My overall impression: I don't really like the book fully, I think it's normal. I don't like this book because it's kind of racist and there's alot of violence happening. But I did enjoy reading this book. Although in the middle, I thought it was boring.
