INKHEART

Inkheart is a 543 paged fantasy book written by Cornelia Funke. It is a quite complicated story since Inkheart is a book inside this book and there are characters appearing from different books and the 'real world' so some characters may have quite bizarre names.

Mo, a bookbinder, & his daugther Meggie are book-lovers. There house is full of books and they probably care more about their books than any other thing they own. However, ever since Meggie's mother mysteriously (to Meggie) disappeared, Mo had never read a book aloud to her. Meggie didn't know that her father had an unusual talent. One night, a stranger turned up at their house. He was named Dustfinger. Meggie never thought pleasantly about this man. This man persuaded Mo to tell Meggie the truth- how it all happened. Mo had a strange gift- when he read a book aloud so realistically, he could read out a character or a few from the book. However, someone or something must go in the book. That night his wife disappeared, he read Inkheart aloud. He read out Dustfinger, 'the Magpie', Basta and Capricorn- the worst of all. Guess who went in?- Teresa, Meggie's mother. Dustfiner was a man who earned his living by doing tricks- he as close with fire. Apart from him, they were all villains who called Mo Silvertongue- villains who never felt any sympathy. These characters from Inkheart all had something in common. 1st, they came out from the same place and they were all after the book- INKHEART but for differen reasons. They run away, Mo later on reads out Farid (who later on likes Meggie)& gold from THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS. One day, Dustfinger betrays them all just for the book- he was homesick- he hated Mo for taking his world away from him. Capricorn finds out that Meggie also has the gift. Therefore when he spots his favourite maid , Resa, ( who Basta and Dustfinger fancy and fought for) & Dustfinger tring to take the book, he demands Meggie to call the Shadow. Farid points out that Resa has Meggie's eyes and nose and hair, Dustfinger knows that Resa is indeed Meggie's mother. When Meggie and Resa meet, They both realise that they are mother and daugther. The writer of Inkheart changes the story so that the Shadow kills Capricorn, they succeed. Basta and the Mgpie and Dustfinger run away but the family that was once separated reunites.

I would have never been able to think of such wonderful plot, such wonderful talents too. I think that there is a lot of coincedences- rather sad one as well. Since it was too exciting, I was able to finish the book in a day! I am glad that I read many books before since Mo and Meggie and Elinor talk about many books such as The Wind in the Willows, The adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Hobbit, Peter Pan... etc. I think that Cornelia must have a open, imaginative mind to think of all these characters.
